What is “El Vidente?”

El Vidente (The Seer) is an observational documentary filmed in Irving, Texas, that follows Don Diego, a Mexican man who blends his Catholic faith with Indigenous traditions he calls "white magic." Believing he was born with a gift from God, he uses prayers and rituals to help clients seek blessings, healing, and protection.
The film quietly observes Don Diego's daily life as he prepares for his work, reflects on how he discovered his calling, and offers a rare glimpse into one of his cleansing rituals. El Vidente invites audiences into Don Diego's world, offering a closer look at the faith, tradition, and people at the heart of his practice.

How it was Made:

El Vidente, who is also known as Don Diego, has been a familiar presence in the Hispanic community of Irving, Texas, for years. I met Don Diego through a family friend and was immediately interested in him and his practice. Over the years, I would occasionally encounter him at community events or hear stories from friends and family about his predictions and prayers. As someone who has always been passionate about Hispanic and Latino stories, I knew that telling Don Diego’s story was important due to the stigma his practice carries in the same community that pays him to do it. Through his patience and openness, I was able to create a film that not only gives a glimpse into his work, but also into Don Diego himself.
